Whenever I tell somebody that I'm living in France from September to December, they ask me whether I plan to go to Oktoberfest. It didn't take me long to realize that this festival was unmissable, and if I did miss it, my friends would never let me live it down. Since I've also heard amazing things about Germany, I decided to combined Oktoberfest with sightseeing and took off for a 4 day trip to Berlin, Munich, and Frankfurt.
This Germany trip was a huge success, so much so that it'll have to be blogged in parts to avoid overloading you with all the photos. This first part brings you none other than the ever so popular Oktoberfest and some sightseeing in Munich. Oktoberfest was rowdy, festive, and lively. Words cannot describe what a great time it was, so I'll just leave you with these photos.

ReplyDeleteGreat pictures!! I was there this weekend :) Year 200!
ReplyDeletethat's awesome, I laughed out loud when I saw the rolling beer table
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! Nice post:)
ReplyDeleteAwww, this brought back so many memories of my eight years in Germany! I remember those stands with the cake/cookies hearts with messages on them. In my brain, I remember the cookie being hard as a rock - but it could be because I didn't eat it until a couple of days after the festival.... Thanks for sharing!

Eight years in Germany Catherine! I'm totally jealous of you too!
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous. As a German-American this is a trip I've wanted to take ever since I learned about Oktoberfest back in my eighth-grade Deutsch class!

Did you go the last weekend? Because in one of your pictures of Lowenbrau, I spotted the Australian in the yellow shirt who gave me and my friends some pretty sweet seats right next to the band! I also took a bike tour around Munich--such a beautiful city! Your pictures are absolutely wonderful

ReplyDeleteWow, I loved your post! I just came back from there too.
ReplyDeleteQuick question: How do you get your pictures to look like that? Is it a special lens?
Haha! I hear ya. But to be fair, I was a kid at the time, so I didn't get to enjoy the full Germany experience. I found Europe to be pretty amazing though. We also had a chance to visit Italy, England, Czechoslovakia (before it broke up) Spain, Hungary, Greece.... Amazing times. I wish I was older though, so I could have experienced it even more. A dream of mine to go again!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics! There are two umissable things in GErmany- Octoberfest and their Christmas markets.

Different from Octoberfest, but I hope you have similar too...
This is so cool. I used to work in the Chinesischen Turm beergarden and I'm so gutted that I wasn't working there for Oktoberfest. It's funny to see that those buskers are still in Marienplatz, they really were the best street act I've ever seen.

ReplyDeleteWell I lived in Saint Johann, Austria in 1956. We moved then to Munich Germany and did attend the 1957 Octoberfest, what a sight for being six years old. They had this parade with bull whips cracking must have been two dozen at 100 feet long.
ReplyDeleteI guess the party was different back then and very formal.

Oktoberfest - visiting Bavaria any time during the year will reveal its beer drinking culture. During the Oktoberfest this habit turns into a frenzy like power contest, where 'Mass' are consumed in terrific amounts. AHE pictures

ReplyDeletecelebrate with the Germans?
ReplyDeleteIt's awesome to have festivals like this and get a chance to join the merrymaking too. Other countries have adopted the "Octoberfest" although it isn't totally celebrated like how it is in Germany. By the way I like the first photo, beer lovers will surely wish a cart similar to that won't only be available on the streets by October but by the whole year round.

I am glad you had a good time in my country!
Looks like fun.. Although I'm stuck in Koln on this semi-overcast Bavarian day, I wish I had the opportunity to experience a more eventful Oktoberfest atmosphere. I guess 'intermot' and the assemblage of German Militia barricading my hotel will have to be entertainment enough. I don't know you but I'm jealous!
