After my afternoon spent in Kensington with Natalie, I’ve really started to love Kensington market. It’s got so much character and local flavour. I love that a lot of the businesses owners live in the market, and that residences in the area are long-time patrons of the shops and restaurants. There is a real sense of distinct community there that’s sometimes lost in big cities.
At the heart of this close-knit community are the small businesses that breathe life into this neighborhood. The shops and the people who run them make up the fabric of this community. During our afternoon there, Nat showed me plenty of her favorite places in the market. Kensington Market are all the small businesses who keep the neighborhood running. Kid Icarus is a cute print studio and retail shop. I love that the studio is in the store and you can watch the staff there at work while browsing through handmade screenprint goods.

Model Citizen is all about silk screen printing on different fabrics and material. Their clothes are amazing, as are their bow-ties. They even teach workshops on screen printing where you can print your own t-shirt designs.

Katie, the owner of Sole Survivor, took a very interesting path to becoming a cobbler. Sole Survivor repairs shoes and boots, and also sells vintage footwear and bags.
