Welcome November: with autumn in full spring, New York City is pretty as ever covered in beautiful fall foliage. While upstate New York and New England has already been enjoying gorgeous autumnal hues throughout October, New York City doesn’t change color until late October and into November. With the red and orange tones above me and the weather just cool enough for layers but still sunny enough to throw on a pair of shades, this month is my favorite time of the year in NYC.

For New Yorkers without access to a car (including myself), the beautiful colors of autumn are still within reach. My favorite spots for fall foliage are the Hudson River Greenway and (of corse) Central Park. 

Hudson River Greenway (along Westside Highway) has its unique vibe distinct from the bustling Manhattan atmosphere. With the cooling weather, this is probably the best time of the year for runners and bikers who frequent the path. The waterfront is as scenic as ever in the changing colors of autumn. When the soft November sun sets behind New Jersey, the water glistens. 

Central Park is particularly stunning at this time of the year. This weekend, I found myself staring down a row autumn trees and slowly falling leaves after cheering on the New York City Marathon racers in Central Park. Spend a few moments at the Athabasca Arches where you can spot row boats float around the lake with the Boathouse in the background. Autumn in the city doesn’t get much better than this.
