Recently, my mum came to visit me in New York City. This was her first time in the big apple so expectations ran high. I have to admit, although I've only been living in NYC for a little over a year, all the trekking around town hunting for photographic moments have me fancying myself as a pretty good tour guide. 

Our first stop was the free Staten Island ferry, it's a short trip but you get amazing views of downtown Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. You can grab lunch at the Staten Island ferry terminal, or hop right back on the 20-minute return trip. If you do have some time, take a stroll along the water front on Staten Island - the view is spectacular there too.  

After the ferry, take the Subway over to Brooklyn and walk back to Manhattan via the Brooklyn Bridge. It's a short walk - about 1.1 miles - and the view as you approach Manhattan is, of course, picturesque.
